VISION
The name Farmers Branch brings to mind images of principled people living in a relaxing, but vibrant community from a bygone era where families are close and neighbors are good friends. That community is not lost. Rather, it is being reawakened right here, right now. The City's infrastructure, services and amenities are second to none. Farmers Branch is on the rise. The future is bright. Farmers Branch is the best place to live, work and play.
PLATFORM
It is incumbent upon City Council members to be accessible, approachable and open to input from the citizens. This is the first level of government where your elected officials should hear and act upon your concerns. As your elected official, it is my obligation to serve and represent the citizens, not special interest groups. I am not and will not be guided by personal agendas or personal beliefs.
Since being elected in 2007, I have made it a point to ensure that my campaign promises have been more than just words. My decisions and actions have been based on what is best for the present and the future. My actions and decision are based on the goal of making Farmers Branch a better place to live, work, learn and play, not just today, but also for generations to come. To meet the challenges that face Farmers Branch and to best serve our residents, I have pursued a comprehensive and aggressive path that has provided positive results and helped make Farmers Branch one of the best place in the Metroplex to live, work, learn and play.
Cornerstone Number 1:
The first cornerstone of my plan remains the active pursuit of the City's revitalization efforts. The City's revitalization efforts began around 1996 with the introduction of the residential renaissance program known as Branch Crossing near Tom Field Road and Valley View Lane. Over the last three years the city council has promoted residential and commercial revitalization with a balanced plan which includes
(1) implementing a strong, consistent code enforcement program;
(2) providing incentives to remodel, renovate or replace existing residential property;
(3) providing the climate to draw national and regional retailers, restaurants and businesses to Farmers Branch; and
(4) pursuing an aggressive campaign to bring top-notch developers to several areas around town, not just the Dart Rail Station and Four Corners areas.
The primary goal has been to create gathering places for our residents which include places to shop, eat and visit with friends and family. Our vision for the areas like the Dart Rail Station, the Four Corners, the Midway/Alpha corridor and Mercer Crossing is vibrant, gathering spots for our community which will also generate additional revenues for our City, enabling us to keep the budget balanced, maintain services and continue to enjoy one of the lowest tax rates in North Texas.
Cornerstone Number 2:
The second cornerstone of my plan is to continue and enhance our efforts to assist our senior citizens and to honor our veterans and our Country. Seniors have been the architects and are the foundation of Farmers Branch. Affordable senior housing, readily accessible to the existing services and amenities is something that still need to be taken from concept to reality. Our staff is working tirelessly to incorporate senior living accommodations into the redevelopment and revitalization efforts. Our veterans have earned our respect and deserve tribute and recognition. In the last three years we have seen the establishment a Hall of Honor at the Senior Center where the honors, stories, artifacts and memorabilia from our local veterans can be shared with our community. In addition, the Walk of Honor has been relocated to Liberty Plaza where it has been greatly expanded to provide greater tribute to our veterans, our heritage and our Country. The first LibertyFest set for Memorial Day Weekend will be our next major step in providing the much deserved tribute to our veterans and our Country.
Cornerstone Number 3:
The third cornerstone is the continued implementation between programs and activities that allow and encourage family involvement in the community. Families are the life blood of Farmers Branch. The City benefits from family oriented functions and events that allow families to stay in the City to participate in activities and contribute to the healthy, vibrant environment.
Cornerstone Number 4:
The final cornerstone of my campaign is to continue the City's fight on the illegal immigration front. The 287g Program, Criminal Alien Program and Secure Community Program are examples of programs where Farmers Branch personnel have been trained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to assist in the enforcement of federal immigration related laws. Continuing the fight is essential to the health, welfare and vitality of Farmers Branch.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
My parents moved to Farmers Branch in 1957 and continue to live here today. As the third of eight children, I was born in Farmers Branch in 1961. I graduated from Mary Immaculate School in Farmers Branch in 1975 and Jesuit in 1979. After receiving my undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas in 1984, I worked as a commercial real estate lender in Dallas for two years before enrolling in law school. I obtained my law degree from Washington & Lee University in Virginia in 1989. After a hiatus for college and initial business endeavors, my wife and I returned to Farmers Branch in 1992 where we now raise our three children.
As a shareholder in a Dallas law firm, my primary practice consists of litigation arising from business and real estate transactions and construction projects. Through my clients and contacts in the development and business communities, I believe I have been in a position to help make our economic development efforts more successful. My wife and I are active volunteers at our children's schools. I am also a member of the Jesuit Alumni Association where I am involved in fund raising activities for need based scholarships. I am a member of both the Farmers Branch Rotary Club and Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce. In addition, I am on the Board of Directors of the Metrocrest Hospital Authority.
Please support me in my bid for re-election for City Council, Place 4. I am committed to preserving our history and securing our future.
